SV Werder Bremen is the leader of the 2nd Bundesliga. In a hard-fought game, the green-whites defeated Dynamo Dresden 2-1 on Sunday afternoon. Niclas Füllkrug scored twice for the home side.

The successful run of SV Werder Bremen continues. The green-whites haven’t lost a game since December last year and have climbed from mid-table to the top. With the work victory over Dresden, green and white finally established themselves at the top after 25 match days; the cushion on a non-promotional spot is a comfortable six points.
And it is precisely these games, like the one against Dresden on Sunday afternoon, that are so important for a successful performance at the end of the season. Those games where the pendulum could have swung the other way.
The SGD took the lead in the Weser Stadium after just two minutes. Werder struggled with the visitors’ early pressing, but could rely on goalgetter Füllkrug. “Lücke” initially equalized the game for Werder and then scored the opening goal just before half-time.
Dresden still had a few chances in the second half, but in the end the team of head coach Ole Werner confidently downplayed the boot. For Werder, that means big points, because: while HSV and Schalke have lost feathers, a work victory counts three points – and for Werder a first preliminary decision regarding promotion?
