Bremen had a little more possession in the first round, but didn’t know what to do with it in the early stages. Both teams neutralized each other at the beginning, so that for a long time there was little to report in front of both gates.
Bremen double blow
But that changed after just under half an hour. At first Gebre Selassie made a clear move in the penalty area from a very good position (27th), but then the Czech did better: An Augustinsson cross was too high for Sargent, Gebre Selassie joined in and pushed in sparkling clean (30th). But that’s not all, because the SVW provided a double blow: Captain Moisander marched forward and found Sargent, who executed alone in front of Ratajczak (32nd). Field-superior Bremer were very effective.
The offensive efforts of the 96ers were disappointing in the first round. The hosts hardly came up with anything, Ducksch’s free kick was clearly over it (37th) and Falette’s conclusion after Kaiser’s free kick was not really dangerous (44th). The second division could even be happy that Eggestein did not make it 3-0, Ratajczak saved with a save (39th). So it went with the 2-0 for SVW in the cabins.
Moisander’s almost own goal
The first chance after the break came from Bremen, but Chong decided to shoot himself instead of passing – and found his champion in Ratajczak (48th). Hannover was more active after the break than before the break. Werder almost helped the Reds back into the game, Moisander almost scored an own goal (50th). The following corner also put the Bremen goal in danger, Hübers put the ball past the right (51st).
Mbom gives Werder peace
After the good start of the 96, the SVW managed to bring some calm back into the game. And in the 60th minute everyone who held it with Werder could be even more relaxed: Chong stepped up and found Mbom, who only had to hold out his foot from a short distance. The 3-0 result was an effective hit for the hosts, who did not recover afterwards. The Kohfeldt-Elf played it cleverly to the end and are fully deserved in the second round.
In the New Year, Hanover welcomes SV Sandhausen on Sunday (1.30 p.m.), January 3rd. Werder Bremen, which ended the year with two competitive games in a row, will face Union Berlin on Saturday (3:30 p.m.), January 2nd, at home.
