Three brothers drowned when they went to a pond to wash mangoes picked from their trunks. The deceased have been identified as Jinshad (12), Rinshad (7) and Rifas (3), sons of Jazeer and Ramla.
The trio were playing with a friend of Rinshad’s house next door, near a pond 150 meters away from his house, around noon yesterday. Rinshad was the first to go into the pond to wash the mangoes picked from the mangroves. Rifas, a three-year-old boy, also jumped into the water when he saw Rinshad fall on a rock. To rescue the two drowning men, Jinshad jumped into the pool.
Her friend informed Ramla that her friend ran away when she saw the three drowning. Residents rushed the children to a private hospital in Alathur but could not save them.
Jazeer, an auto driver, has been living in a rented house in Pallimedu for a year and a half.
Jinshad is a seventh class student of Kannampulli GUP School. Rinshad is also in third class. They are the winners of the Sub-District Arabic Arts Festival.
After the postmortem at Alathur Taluk Hospital, the bodies were brought to the Kariyankatte family home and buried at the Vermanur Juma Masjid in Kunissery.
