Wendy Williams Receives Treatment for Cognitive Issues in Unnamed Facility

Former talk show host Wendy Williams is currently receiving treatment for cognitive issues in an undisclosed facility, according to People magazine. The upcoming Lifetime docuseries, “Where Is Wendy Williams?,” sheds light on Williams’ struggles with alcohol addiction, mental health, memory, and effective communication. The series will air in four parts on Saturday and Sunday at 8 p.m.

Williams, 59, has limited contact with her family, as they do not know the location of her treatment facility. However, she does speak to her sister and niece if she initiates the calls. Williams’ sister, Wanda Finnie, revealed that she spoke with her recently and that Williams is in a wellness and healing environment.

The docuseries showcases a different side of Williams, as her niece, Alex Finnie, explains. She commends her aunt for taking control of her narrative and being open about her struggles. Alex believes that Williams’ decision to share her story is powerful and shows her commitment to owning her past and present.

Williams’ cognitive issues are being overseen by a court-appointed legal guardian who manages her finances and health decisions. While her family cannot reach out to her directly, they are relieved that she can reach out to them when needed. Wanda emphasized that the person portrayed in the documentary is not the same person they interact with.

Despite the challenges Williams has faced, her family is encouraged by her progress. Alex describes her aunt as clear-minded, focused, and determined to prioritize family and confront her physical, mental, and emotional state.

Williams hosted “The Wendy Williams Show” from 2009 to 2022 but left due to erratic behavior and health issues. In June 2022, she revealed that she had lost 95% of feeling in her swollen feet due to lymphedema, a condition she battles alongside Graves disease. Williams first disclosed her Graves disease diagnosis in 2018 after fainting on-air during a live taping.

In April 2019, Williams filed for divorce from her husband of 22 years, Kevin Hunter, after discovering he was expecting a child with his mistress, Sharina Hudson.

The departure of “The Wendy Williams Show” made way for “Sherri,” hosted by Sherri Shepherd, which now airs at 10 a.m. on weekdays on WNYW/Channel 5.

Williams’ journey to overcome her cognitive issues and reclaim her health and well-being is an ongoing process. The upcoming docuseries provides a glimpse into her struggles and showcases her determination to face her challenges head-on. Through her openness and willingness to share her story, Williams hopes to inspire others who may be going through similar difficulties.
