End of series for Spurs and Victor Wembanyama! After 4 victories in a row, San Antonio fell last night on its floor against the Los Angeles Lakers. (119-101) Despite another double-double to blacken the score sheet, Wemby was unable to offer victory to his team.
If this match between Spurs and Lakers did not have immense interest for the first places in the Western Conference, it offered us at least a duel between two of the most dominant interiors of the moment in the NBA: Victor Wembanyama for San Antonio and Anthony Davis for LA. A match within the match which started very strongly with Victor sending AD back to his studies in the first action of the match.

If Wemby had a strong moment there, it was Unibrow (19 points, 14 rebounds, 7 assists) who took the match into his own hands with a big start and domination on both sides of the court to put his Lakers on the right track. With the contribution of a Dalton Knecht back among the starters (20 points) and the triple-double of a LeBron James in Diesel mode, this was enough to tame a Spurs team which had a lagging match, tempting a few rapprochements without ever really worrying the Angelinos. We also learned that D’Angelo Russell and Chris Paul definitely won’t be going on vacation together.

While he remained on an excellent outing against Jazz, Victor had a solid match last night on a statistical level as he finished with 20 points, 10 rebounds, 2 interceptions but also 3 blocks. A “solid” stat line for 98% of the League but not when your name is Victor Wembanyama. Apart from a few brilliant actions, the Frenchman produced a decent copy, but far from his last performances, notably with a 3-point address which fell again (2/9 last night). The Alien will be able to breathe a little now since the Spurs do not play again until Sunday evening. It will be against the Kings of Domantas Sabonis, another good client to manage in the racket.
