Zurich hopes for world records: These stories will shape the “world class” meeting in Letzigrund

Armand Duplantis in the pole vault? Jakob Ingebrigtsen over 1500 meters? Beatrice Chebet over 5000 m? Jaroslawa Mahutschich in the high jump? Athletics history may be made in Zurich on Thursday. An overview of the ingredients for another magical athletics night in Letzigrund.

After his 3000 m world record, Jakob Ingebrigtsen is now tackling the 26-year-old 1500 m mark in Zurich.

Dominic Lobalu was actually supposed to be at the media conference the day before “Weltklasse Zürich”. But Corona has thrown a wrench into his plans: Lobalu, the European champion over 10,000 m in Rome and fourth in the 5000 m at the Paris Olympics, has to forego the 3000 m race in Letzigrund. The infection had already made itself felt last week when he again stayed under 13 minutes over 5 km at the Diamond League meeting in Rome, but did not make a good impression in the final phase of the fast race. The final in Brussels at the end of next week, for which Lobalu has long since qualified, remains a goal for the LC Brühl runner.
