Welt am Sonntag: EU skeptical about transferring 1 million shells annually to Ukraine

The European Union (EU) began to discuss the details of providing Ukraine with 1 million ammunition during the year, the decision on this was made by the EU countries at the end of March. According to the German newspaper Welt am Sonntag, negotiations are tense, and military circles have doubts about the implementation of this plan.

“Negotiations between the headquarters and diplomats of the EU countries are tense. We are talking about competencies, vanity and national interests,”— writes edition.

“In Brussels military circles, they say that 1 million shells will hardly be collected. At least not for one year,” the article says (translated from “RIA Novosti”).

The dispute concerns where to order or purchase shells: through the European Defense Agency, outside Europe, or rely on their defense industry.

The project of joint purchases of 155 mm artillery shells to replenish their own stocks and transfer to Ukraine was signed by 18 countries (17 EU countries and Norway).
