The local authorities in a small village in Wales decided to unleash flocks of sheep and goats in its streets to move between the gardens of different houses instead of cats and dogs, and let them eat what they desire of vegetables and flowers planted at the entrances of the houses.
A report published by the British newspaper (METRO), and viewed by Al Arabiya Net, said that the unleashing of these herds of goats and sheep angered some residents in the town of “Llandudno”, North Wales, who wanted to suppress the herd, and called for the erection of fences and the imposition of contraceptives and even Shoot to control them.
But the local council decided that they were not his responsibility because they roamed freely and the landowners were responsible for their gardens.
The council said: “The Llandudno goats have roamed in a wild state for over 100 years and were originally a gift to Lord Mostyn from Queen Victoria. The goats have been returned to a wild state and are therefore now considered wild animals.”
The council added: “No single person or organization is legally responsible for herds of goats in Llandudno, and they can only become someone’s property if they are confined.”
The council continued: “Since goats are wild animals, it is not the council’s legal responsibility to keep goats in an enclosed space or to contain or care for them.”
The local council says that if property is damaged in the village, the onus is on the property owners, who must remove the goats. A landowner has the legal right to act if a wild animal is on his land.”
Safety concerns have been raised in the past after they have been hit by cars and suffered injuries. “Although it’s nice to see them, there is concern about their safety crossing roads and so on,” said one local resident.
