“We’ll stop while we’re still at the top”: KISS band members retire after current tour | showbiz

KISS has been around for nearly five decades, but is nearing its end. According to musician Gene Simmons, the band members are ready to enjoy a well-deserved retirement after the current farewell tour. Why do they stop? “Proud, self-respect and love and admiration for our fans”, says Simmons in the program ‘Whiplash’ on the American radio station KLOS. “The last thing you want is to be a boxing world champion and stay in the ring for too long. It’s only a matter of time before your legs can’t carry you anymore and you lose.” It doesn’t just happen to boxers, but also to musicians, Simmons says. “They start to forget their lyrics and you can see the deep grooves in their faces. It’s simply what life is like, as we know it here on Earth.”

“So we’re doing the right thing,” Simmons continues. “We will stop while we are still at the top. It will be sad, but it will also be a happy moment. On the last show we’ll ever play, I’ll be crying like a 12-year-old kid you just stepped on.”

Belgian fans will still have the chance to see the band at work on June 6: KISS will then play in the Antwerp Sportpaleis.
