Although the PS5 has been on the market for two years, the out-of-stock problem has not been fully resolved, but it seems that this does not affect Sony’s development progress for the host Tom Henderson, a well-known game whistleblower, said which appeared a change of the PS5 development machine.
Tom Henderson said he has received information from two developers who have already received the development machine: the new PS5 will have a detachable optical drive and this part will work without problems. Thus, the official announcement from Sony is likely to be seen in the near future.
As for the removable optical disc drive, it was also mentioned in the Insider Gaming report from September this year, which states that the optical disc drive is connected via Type-C on the back of the host. it’s discreetly hidden in the host, meaning the setup will likely look similar to the current PS5 (disc drive is at the bottom). In the future, Sony will release a bundled version, or you can choose to purchase it separately.
Allowing the disk drive to be detachable means that the size of the game console can be reduced. Also, when the disk drive is broken, there is no need to replace the entire drive. Insider gaming also said that this host is expected to launch in the middle of fiscal year 2023, i.e. around September 2023. Of course, none of these have been officially confirmed yet.
