Twin pregnancies are considered rare. While there were 87,344 single births in Switzerland in 2021, according to the Federal Statistical Office there were only 1,331 twins and eleven triplets. Double family happiness seems to be particularly widespread among national celebrities such as Christa Rigozzi (39) or Roger Federer (41), as well as among international stars such as Céline Dion (54) or Mariah Carey (53) – but this has nothing to do with fame of parents to do.

While identical twins, according to the portal «swissmom.ch» are a coincidence of nature, things would look a little different with dizygotic twins. There would be a certain hereditary component to this, which ensures that twins are born more frequently in certain families. However, this is not due to a “twin gene”, but to a family tendency towards double ovulation. Accordingly, the likelihood of a woman having fraternal twins is greater if she herself is a twin or if there have been twins in her family at some point.
