FX’s docuseries “Welcome to Wrexham,” from Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds, took five wins at the 2023 Creative Arts Emmys, including best unstructured reality show. The two marked the occasion with a video on social media in which Reynolds revived Deadpool to poke fun at the Oscars.
“Wow, an Emmy, what an incredible honor,” McElhenney said at the beginning of the clip. “There are so many people to thank. I’ve been waiting for this moment for 16 years, so I have a lot to say. I would like to start by thanking…”

The video then cuts to Deadpool. “First and foremost, Wrexham, we love you,” he says. “Thank you for letting Rob and the other tell your story. Cymru am byth, bitches! [traducción: Gales para siempre, zorras]. I would also like to thank the Academy for this honor and for not asking us to attend the televised awards ceremony with the real celebrities [también conocidos como los Globos de Oro, que se celebraron la misma noche].”
“Finally, the Oscars, be warned motherfuckers,” added Reynolds as Deadpool. “Maybe next year we can get a token mention for special effects. The amount of work on Hugh and Ryan’s face alone deserves at least a nod.”

The comedian was referring to the upcoming “Deadpool 3,” which would compete at the 2025 Oscars for a possible award for visual effects or other categories. Reynolds will be joined in the Marvel film by Hugh Jackman, who reprises his role as Wolverine. Production on the film was halted last year due to the SAG-AFTRA strikes, but filming picked up again just before the Thanksgiving holiday.
“Deadpool 3” stands out not only for the return of Jackman as Wolverine, but also for being the first production of the Marvel Cinematic Universe that continues a franchise created by 20th Century Fox. The first two “Deadpool” films were released before Disney acquired Fox. Following the agreement, Deadpool now enters Disney’s Marvel Cinematic Universe and will be joined in the film by other Fox-backed superheroes such as Wolverine and Jennifer Garner’s Elektra.
“Deadpool 3” will be released in theaters on July 26 by Disney. Watch McElhenney and Reynolds’ full speech below.
