Graz/Weiz (OTS) – The Eastern Styrian region of WEIZplus with its 41 communities and 120,000 residents plans to say goodbye to fossil fuels in the future and thus take its energy supply into its own hands. The region’s goal is to transform the energy system proactively, collaboratively and with regional added value.
With this project, an international jury from the Austrian Ministry for Climate Protection, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology was able to convince of the innovative approach of the overall project “EnergieZukunft WEIZplus”, which in the future will be supported by municipalities, regional companies and energy infrastructure operators as well as the population .
With this project, the WEIZplus region now operates one of three “real-world laboratories” across Austria and is therefore in the spotlight not only nationally but also internationally. 5.2 million euros in federal and state funding were promised for the start-up phase of the project.
On the occasion of the project launch in January and the associated founding of the EnergieZukunft WEIZplus cooperative, the actors, together with their stakeholders consisting of the federal government, state, municipalities and partners from industry and business, would like to carry out the entire project within the framework of one present to the interested public at a press conference.
