Weinstein sentenced in New York, and soon in Los Angeles?

In the fall of 2017, the first accounts of the predatory behavior of Harvey Weinstein led to the downfall of the all-powerful Hollywood producer and the emergence of the #MeToo movement. Two years later, a first sentence was pronounced against him.

The sentence fell on March 11: Harvey Weinstein was sentenced to twenty-three years in prison for rape and sexual assault. In its verdict, delivered on February 24, the jury did not uphold the charge of serial sexual assault, which could have resulted in the life sentence of the former powerful Hollywood producer, ousted following the charges in series brought against him. These had triggered the #MeToo movement and more broadly a freedom of speech movement.

The sentence known, Weinstein’s lawyers will be able to appeal. But, as reminded USA Today, another trial could open in Los Angeles, for similar facts. Which, if convicted, could lengthen the prison sentence of the former producer – up to twenty-eight more years, says the American newspaper
