Dutch player Outside Weghorst open voice on the frictions with the captain of the Argentine national team Lionel Messi in the quarter-finals of the 2022 World Cup, on 10 December.
The commotion occurred after Argentina dispatched the Netherlands on penalties in a heated match. At the time Weghorst was planning to shake hands with Messi but he received a negative response.
At the time, Weghorst’s hand was put aside by Messi, and La Pulga refused to talk to the Besiktas player.
Weghorst has now returned to his club. The former Burnley player also opened his voice about the incident that occurred at the 2022 World Cup.
Weghorst said he wants to show respect for Messi, an attitude he also usually shows to opposing players who become opponents in a match.
“I had a few moments with Messi. He was surprised at that moment and he didn’t like it. I don’t like talking about other people. I respect him a lot. I think he’s one of the greatest players we’ve ever had in the history of football” , he said. quoted from Metro.

Apart from the friction with Messi, Weghorst is still proud of his work with the Dutch national team even if he hasn’t managed to become the best.
“The World Cup was the best three weeks of my football career. I’m happy to have this opportunity. It’s something I’ve dreamed of since I was little. A great experience,” he said.
