Tunisia’s Minister of Industry, Mines and Energy, Fatima Al-Thabet Shaibub, confirmed that the change in oil and gas prices in global markets and a decline in supply security have become a major concern for most countries in the world, especially those involving energy. due to geopolitical conflicts.

This came when the Tunisian Minister participated in a workshop called “A New Energy Vision for the South” in the presence of the Algerian Minister of Energy and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, on the sidelines of the activities of the third session of the International Forum to Right, entitled “The European Strategy for a New Geopolitical, Economic, Social and Cultural Sector in the Mediterranean Region” in the Italian city of Sorrento, in the presence of the Tunisian Ambassador to Italy, Mourad Bourahla, and the Consul of Italy. city ​​of Naples, Khaled Al-Faqih.

The Minister pointed out that Tunisia has adopted a national energy strategy by the year 2035 that responds to the requirements of the platform and is within an energy, climate, economic and social vision that aims to specialized in moving from traditional production and consumption systems to its new and sustainable energy model based on the diversification of clean energy sources by producing 35% of energy from renewable energy sources by 2030 with the aim of reducing energy dependence and increasing its competitiveness at an international level.

She explained that Tunisia’s energy strategy is based on strengthening continuous efforts in all sectors to control energy demand and pay attention to changing consumer behavior and improving the energy balance with the goal of reducing consumption, adding that work is being done to diversify the energy mix and Reducing dependence on natural gas in electricity production through the introduction of renewable energy and the use of electricity in several sectors, especially the transport sector, with a greater degree of integration of renewable energy into the production system.

She emphasized the need to promote innovative and new technologies, such as green hydrogen, as a new source to diversify the energy mix, indicating that Tunisia is committed to contributing to the global effort to reduce the risks of climate change , by moving to a low carbon energy model and reducing gas emissions by 45% by 2030. .

Regarding the Tunisian-Italian cooperation, the Minister explained that the electrical interconnection project between Tunisia and Italy is considered a unique project of its kind between the African and European continents, which will contribute to the strengthening of relations between the two shores the Mediterranean as a locomotive for. the new energy vision to the south, indicating the completion of the electrical interconnection project “ALMAD” With the European continent through Italy, it will support the national electrical grid and provide opportunities new opportunities for exchange between countries on each shore of the Mediterranean Sea through further integration of renewable energy.
