GE. In October, the Municipal Cinema (Koki) travels to the film country France and presents four films from France in its main series, which, as drama, comedy or a mixture of both genres, testify to the usual high quality of French cinema. On Sunday, October 6th and Monday, October 7th, Koki will show the French biopic “A Life for Humanity – Abbé Pierre” by Frédéric Tellier. On Tuesday, October 8th, the US-American-British-Georgian drama “Tatami” by Guy Nattiv and Tsar Amir Ebrahimi shows the intense conflict between personal aspirations and political pressure – based on true events and under Iranian-Israeli co-direction. Performances run Sunday at 12:45 p.m., Monday and Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. and 8 p.m.
A life for humanity – Abbé Pierre
The Frenchman Henri Antoine Grouès, aka Abbé Pierre (Benjamin Lavernhe), who comes from a wealthy family, dedicates his entire life to the persecuted and oppressed. At the age of 20 he joined the Capuchin order. When World War II broke out shortly afterwards, he joined the Resistance and helped hundreds of Jewish families escape. After the end of the war, he became a member of the National Assembly, founded a global homeless aid organization and became a national hero during the cold snap in 1953, when his moving radio speech triggered a wave of solidarity. – FSK from 12 years.
Tatami
The Iranian judoka Leila (Arienne Mandi) travels with her coach Maryam (Tsar Amir Ebrahimi) to Tbilisi, where she desperately wants to win Iran’s first gold medal at the world championships taking place there. As the tournament progresses and it becomes more and more likely that she will face an Israeli opponent, the regime of the Islamic Republic intervenes. The rulers in Tehran will not tolerate a possible defeat against an athlete from hated Israel and instruct Maryam to ask Leila to fake an injury and quit the competition. If this doesn’t happen, Leila won’t be the only one to face drastic consequences. – FSK from 12 years.
The performances take place in the Schauburg, Horster Straße 6. Admission costs 6 euros for a performance or 54 euros for the 10-person ticket. Schoolchildren, students and GE pass holders receive discounts.
