Colder and no rain. This is the expected scenario for the weekend. Temperatures are beginning to fall as early as Friday, with a sharp overnight cooling expected over the next two days across the country. On Sunday, it is expected a drop in minimum temperatures “all over the country,” says DN Patrícia Gomes, meteorologist at the Portuguese Institute of Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA)
It is expected that “morning fog or fog will form in some locations that may persist over the weekend in the northeastern Transmontano and Beira Alta regions.
The North and Inner Central regions will be the coldest in Portugal, with minimum temperatures hovering at -3º and 0º Celsius, explains the meteorologist who speaks at normal values for the time of year. It is estimated that for Sunday Bragança has -3º degrees, Castelo Branco and Viana do Castelo should record -1º, according to forecasts published on the website of IPMA.
The rest of the territory “will have minimum temperature values between 0º and 6º degrees”, and there may be places near the coast, which usually have higher values, “which may be between 5º and 10º”.
In relation to the maximum temperatures, the mercury of the thermometers will oscillate between 5º and 10º degrees in the Interior North and Center region and in the remaining territory will vary between 10º and 17º.
Rain is expected to return midweek
For the next few days no rain or snow is expected, says Patricia Gomes. However, “ice or frost formation is expected, especially in the interior regions, where the lowest temperatures are recorded,” he says.
Dry weather remains on Monday and you should only need umbrella in the middle of next week.
“There is a tendency that from 14/15 (Tuesday and Wednesday) there may be precipitation, mainly in the North and Center “, says the meteorologist who is keen to safeguard that this forecast still has “some uncertainty associated”.
Rainfall is expected to continue until next weekend.
Waves could reach up to five meters for this Friday
For this Friday, the sea bars of Caminha, Vila Praia de Âncora, Vila do Conde, Esposende, Póvoa de Varzim and Ericeira are closed to all navigation due to the sea turmoil.
According to the National Maritime Authority, the bars of Viana do Castelo, Aveiro, Figueira da Foz, S. Martinho do Porto, on the mainland, and those of Santa Cruz das Flores and Lages das Flores, in the Azores, are conditioned.
Due to the sea turmoil, IPMA placed the districts of Viana do Castelo, Braga, Porto, Aveiro, Coimbra, Leiria and Lisbon under yellow warning until 18:00 this Friday.
The IPMA forecasts today from the west coast 4 to 5 meter northwest waves, 3 to 4 meters south of Cape Raso, decreasing to 3 to 3.5 meters from late afternoon.
For the weekend no warnings of sea turmoil are expected “either to the west coast or to the south coast”, says meteorologist Patrícia Gomes.
