Weekend, what to do in Pisa and its province on February 18th and 19th

The Carnival weekend has arrived, with the squares ready to come alive with shows, masks and float parades. Many themed appointments for the occasion (here all the Carnival events), but on the weekend of 18 and 19 February there will also be excursions, concerts, literary reviews and theatrical performances. Here are some tips for the weekend.

Sunday 19 February, from 3 to 6 pm, in the streets adjacent to Piazza Garibaldi, in Vecchiano, appointment with a parade of allegorical floats, masks, philharmonics, stalls of carnival articles, sweets, donuts and small attractions of the traveling show.

Two days of celebration in Calci to celebrate Carnival. Between Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 February there will be a weekend of entertainment and fun with a parade of masks, street bands, musical performances and street food that will transform the country into a small Rio De Janeiro.

To celebrate Carnival, the Piaggio Museum of Pontedera, in collaboration with the Monte Fantasy Animation association, is organizing an initiative dedicated to children and their families on Saturday 18 February. Giant mascots will welcome the children to the Museum for a nice souvenir photo; accompanied by music, through interaction games and a creative workshop, the families will then be engaged in the creation of the most famous “Pentolaccia”, but in the shape of a Vespa,

An ironic and light comedy on the relationship between human beings and the environment at the Teatro Nuovo in Pisa with ‘Il Pelo nell’Uovo’. This is the second show of the trilogy written, directed and interpreted by Ribalta Teatro and will be staged on Saturday 18 February at 9 pm. The text and direction are by Alberto Ierardi, Giorgio Vierda and Luca Oldani. On stage Alberto Ierardi and Giorgio Vierda.

For Sunday 19 February, Fiab Pisa is offering a bike excursion to the Segata Tower of Filettole. The departure is at 9.30 from Piazza dell’Arcivescovado (meeting at 9.15). After a coffee break in Pontasserchio, the arrival at the destination is expected around 11.30 and the return, through Ripafratta and Pappiana, will be for lunchtime. The route, about 30 km long, takes place on a mainly paved road with some dirt roads and a final climb of more than 3 km which requires the use of a bike equipped with gears.

Saturday 18 February, at 6 pm in the Sala Titta Ruffo del Verdi Theater of Pisa, the third appointment with ‘MusicaVerde’ is scheduled, the concert series by the young musicians of the Stefano Strata Academy of Music in collaboration with the Pisa Theater Foundation which, also this year, wanted to enhance the new generations by offering them a prestigious stage to present themselves to the city. Three young talents from the specialization courses of the Strata Academy will perform: Antonio Carone, 24 years old from Bari, guitar Dario Cei, 27 years old, from Pisa, transverse flute, Damiano Bertuccelli, from Viareggio, guitar.

Saturday 18 February, starting at 17.30, new appointment at the Il Fortino Club with “Poetry, poetry. Small excursions in the spirit with the verses of the Pisan poets”. Space for the poems of Stefania Bertoni Ferretti and Alberto Albero, two Tirrenians capable of enchanting readers with their verses. In the second part of the evening, after dinner, it will be Veronica Manghesi’s turn.

Sunday 19 February, as part of the exhibition ‘Immagini dal Ventennio. Pisa and the fascist regime (1922 – 1943)’, which can be visited until 26 March, will host the conference entitled ‘Mussolini architect and urban planner’ in the auditorium of Palazzo Blu.
