Emma wanted to invest in the integration and employment of young people. “With the health crisis, we will have work in the coming months,” said the young woman. Jean-Paul is interested in the economy, the attractiveness and the image of the territory internationally. “I want to bring my stone to the building as a citizen”, explains this retiree, who worked in the export. As for Sylvie, she is already involved in ecology and mobility issues. “I think we can shed a different light on elected officials,” said the resident of Cronenbourg.
All three are part of the new Eurometropolis Development Council, installed on April 19 for six years. To compose this assembly, a working group bringing together the different political groups of the Eurometropolis council selected 73 people from 455 candidates, on criteria of age, sex, field of activity and geographical origin, in order to ” be representative of society and the 33 municipalities. Three members were also appointed by the mayor of Kehl and 19 others had already participated in the first term between 2010 and 2015.
The Development Council should operate around five permanent thematic committees: planning and living environment, mobility, daily public services, economy-employment-development and living well in the Eurometropolis. It will thus be able to contribute to the evaluation and improvement of public policies, to reflections on current affairs and local projects and to hear the voices of the inhabitants.
Governance will also be ensured in a collegial manner. Jacques Bigot has been appointed president of the Development Council and will be responsible for leading the work of the structure, with the help of 22 volunteer members. This coordination made it possible to establish the first orientations. An office made up of nine volunteers will also be responsible for ensuring communication on the work and news of the Development Council.
