The presence of the remnant of the tropical disturbance Freddy in the Mozambique Channel will influence the weather in Madagascar. Heavy rains are thus to be expected this weekend according to the meteorological service. This low pressure circulation is heading southeastward and is approaching the southwest coasts this Sunday or Monday. According to forecasts, it could also intensify and become a cyclone again. Locally heavy thunderstorms ranging from 50 to 120 mm are expected in several districts from today. A yellow vigilance was broadcast in the Atsimo Andrefana region, green vigilance for Boeny, Ihorombe, Androy, Anosy and Atsimo Atsinanana.
This tropical disturbance left its mark in several localities. Analamanga was spared but Freddy’s return worries more than one after the heavy rains yesterday. Several streets in the capital are flooded and the inhabitants of the slums are already worried about their fate. Those in Upper Town are concerned about the risk of rockslides that can occur at any time.
