Weather: Why the bad weather “Dorothea” is renamed to “Emil” – 2024-02-29 13:41:37

Renamed to “Emil» the bad weather system “Dorothea” which is expected to affect the country from this evening and for the next two days of Thursday and Friday.

The main characteristics of bad weather will be strong southernersaccompanied by rains and in places stormswhile the temperature is not expected to change much from today’s levels.

“With the latest update of the forecast maps by the Central Mediterranean Group from Eumetnet, the low in the Central Mediterranean changes its name and from Dorothea becomes Emil, which, however, weakens”, says Thodoris Kolidas in his message on Facebook regarding the newest forecast of the checkers.

The forecast for Thursday (29/2)

In the eastern island country and Thrace a few clouds that will gradually increase. In the rest of the country, clouds will increase in places with local rains that will intensify from the afternoon in the west and sporadic storms will occur.

Locally limited visibility in continental areas in the morning hours.

Meteorological conditions favor the transport of African dust.

The winds will blow east southeast, in the west 5 to 7 and locally in the Ionian 8 Beaufort, in the east 4 to 6 and in the southern seas from the afternoon 7, locally 8 Beaufort.

The temperature will remain at high levels for the season and will reach 18 to 19 and locally 20 degrees Celsius.

Macedonia, Thrace

Weather: In western and central Macedonia, clouds temporarily increased with local rains that will intensify in the evening and isolated storms may occur. In the rest of the areas, sparse clouds in places denser.
Winds: East southeast 3 to 5 Beaufort.
Temperature: From 07 to 17 to 19 degrees Celsius. In western Macedonia up to 15 degrees.

Ionian Islands, Epirus, Western Sterea, Western Peloponnese

Weather: Sparse clouds that will gradually thicken and from the afternoon hours there will be local rains which will intensify in the evening and sporadic storms will occur. At night the local effects will be strong.
Winds: Southeast 4 to 6 and in the Ionian 7 to 8 Beaufort.
Temperature: From 08 to 19 degrees Celsius. In the interior of Epirus 3 to 4 degrees lower.

Eastern Sterea, Evia, Eastern Peloponnese

Weather: Temporarily increased clouds with local rains.
Winds: Southeast 4 to 6 Beaufort.
Temperature: From 08 to 18 degrees Celsius.

Cyclades, Crete

Weather: Scattered clouds, denser in places.
Winds: Southeast 5 to 7 Beaufort, strengthened in the evening locally to 8 Beaufort.
Temperature: From 13 to 19 degrees Celsius.

Eastern Aegean Islands, Dodecanese

Weather: Sparse clouds that will thicken from noon.
Winds: Southeast 4 to 5 and in the Dodecanese locally 6 Beaufort.
Temperature: From 12 to 20 degrees Celsius.

Thessaly

Weather: Temporarily increased clouds with local rains that will intensify late at night.
Winds: East southeast 4 to 6 Beaufort.
Temperature: From 10 to 18 degrees Celsius.

Attica

Weather: Clouds temporarily increasing with light local rain until noon.
Winds: Southeast 4 to 6 Beaufort.
Temperature: From 12 to 18 degrees Celsius.

Thessaloniki

Weather: Increased clouds with local rains.
Winds: East southeast 3 to 5 Beaufort.
Temperature: From 11 to 17 degrees Celsius.

Friday’s forecast (1/3)

Clouds with local showers and sporadic thunderstorms, possibly strong in places, are forecast from the early morning hours in the Ionian Islands and the western mainland. Gradually the phenomena will extend further east to the rest of the mainland and until the afternoon hours in the Cyclades and Crete and in the evening to the islands of the eastern Aegean and the Dodecanese. In the west from midday hours the effects will weaken.
Snowfall will occur in the northwestern mountains.

Meteorological conditions favor the transport of African dust mainly to the south.

Winds will blow in the west south southeast 4 to 5 and early morning in the Ionian 6 to 7 Beaufort, from noon they will turn to west southwest and weaken. In the east, southeast winds will blow 4 to 6 and in the Aegean 7, locally 8 Beaufort with weakening from the evening.

The temperature will drop slightly and reach 15 to 17 degrees in the north and 18 to 19 degrees Celsius in the rest.
