Relatively untouched New York City

  • Winter 2019/2020 has indeed started in the USA! On Monday, December 2, 2019, a very thin layer of snow covered New York City. Snowfall, however, much more limited than the disaster expected by American meteorologists. In Times Square and Manhattan, the snow clearly did not hold up, as you will see on New York webcams.
  • At New York airports, the storm dubbed Ezekiel caused takeoff delays of about 1.5 hours at JFK and around 1:10 at LaGuardia and Newark. Arriving flights were 30 to 45 minutes late at JFK and LaGuardia and up to 1 hour late at Newark.
  • These delays are still ongoing this morning at JFK, according to the latest statistics from the site FlightAware.

The situation is much more critical in the North

  • If New York City is doing quite well, the situation is quite different further north. The New York State capital, Albany, recorded 40 cm of snowfall.
  • Several accidents have occurred across New York State. A plane went off the runway at Buffalo Airport, without consequence. And a train collided with a snow plow shortly after leaving Niagara Falls, again with no casualties.
  • In New Jersey, the state governor called on administrations to close their doors as of noon Monday, to allow employees to return home.
  • In the MassachusettsBoston also appears much more affected, with a layer of snow that has completely enveloped the city. Schools in the city will also be closed today Tuesday.
  • According to the National Weather Service, the US weather forecast, the snowstorm will pass through New England today. Snowfall of up to 25 cm is expected today Wednesday over Maine. See the map below.
