Weather, Snow | Starting with strong winds, then comes winter

Autumn is in full swing and now this week comes the first real taste of winter.

Monday starts fresh, with strong winds at times during the afternoon and evening. The reason is the polar low pressure that has risen east of Greenland, and is now heading for Nordland and Troms.

– It is possible that the low pressure will affect the coast of Vesterålen, Troms and Vest-Finnmark on Monday afternoon. It is possible that another polar low pressure will develop on Monday morning, writes the Meteorological Institute in a yellow danger warning that is initially expected for sea areas outside northern Norway.

However, the wind will also come on land.

– Monday night, there will be a storm from the west of Yttersida, and Tuesday will start with strong to strong gales. After that, it gradually decreases and changes to a new easterly wind, says meteorology consultant Rune Skoglund at Weather Forecasting for Northern Norway.

Snow

At the same time when the wind calms down, the temperature drops gradually. From Wednesday it will be below zero.

– Precipitation can come as slowly as Tuesday, before it comes as snow from Wednesday and later for the rest of the week. A steady influx of snow is likely into next week, says Skoglund.

– What snow are we talking about?

– Maybe it will be enough that people have to find the stilts and the snow drawer. It could be anywhere from ten to 30 centimeters during the week, it’s kind of hard to say right now, says Skoglund.

Dark and sad now

He himself welcomes a little snow.

– Now that we have fixed the clock, it will be very dark and dark in the afternoon and evening. Some snow is just nice to have, it’s part of the season we’re entering.

After the end of the week, milder weather is expected.

– Usually, in the period before Christmas, we get periods of milder weather. But there is still a long time until next week, so the forecasts can still change, says Skoglund.
