Weather: snow expected throughout the country from Tuesday

The rest of the week promises to be variable and cooler, sometimes with heavy showers and always a risk of snow in the Ardennes.

DWinter showers are expected across the country on Tuesday, mainly in the Ardennes, the Royal Meteorological Institute (IRM) announced in its midday weather report.

On Tuesday, the day will start with cloudy weather and some rain in the east of the country. In the west and the center, it will be drier with temporarily the possibility of large thinnings. In the afternoon, the weather will become more variable and the risk of showers will increase in all regions. These can take on a winter character with sleet, or even slush in the Ardennes. A thunderclap will also be possible. The maximum will be between 4 degrees in Hautes-Fagnes and 9 degrees on the west and the center. The wind will be moderate to fairly strong from west-southwest. The gusts will not exceed 50 to 60 km / h.

Tuesday evening and overnight, the weather will remain variable with the passage of several fairly heavy downpours. These will adopt a winter character all over the country with snow or slush to the south of the Sambre-et-Meuse furrow and sleet or slush in the lowlands. Snow accumulation will therefore be possible in the Ardennes, or even temporarily at lower altitudes. The minima will be between -2 degrees in Hautes-Fagnes and +4 degrees on the coast.

Wednesday will be marked by variable weather with showers, sometimes intense, alternating with sunny spells. In the Ardennes, it will be flurries, which can then lead to an accumulation of several centimeters. Elsewhere, showers will be rain, slush or sleet, and could take on a thunderstorm. The rest of the week promises to be variable and cooler, sometimes with heavy showers and always a risk of snow in the Ardennes.
