The new week in the Czech Republic started with rainy weather, and according to current forecasts, the situation will not improve much in the coming days. Meteorologists from the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute (ČHMÚ) warn of intense rainfall expected at the end of the week. Even extreme rain is possible, which has led to the issuing of an advance warning.
The Czech Hydrometeorological Institute (ČHMÚ) warns of intense rainfall that could hit the Czech Republic from Thursday to Sunday. “On rare occasions, precipitation can even be extreme,” said the ČHMÚ, stating that in such a case a warning with the highest level of danger can be issued.
But they haven’t issued an official warning yet. “This is a preliminary warning, we recommend following detailed weather forecasts,” adds the ČHMÚ on its website.
“In addition to cooling and heavy cloud cover, the front brought occasional rain to practically our entire territory,” meteorologists announced on the network X. The rain should gradually taper off from the west during the day, but changeable weather is typical for the start of the week.
The CHMÚ already pointed out at the weekend about the approaching significant cooling and more permanent rain from Thursday. “The situation is burdened with great uncertainty, but in the eastern half of the republic it may rain up to 50 mm, in mountains such as Jeseníky and Beskydy even several times more,” the institute warned.
He added that forecasts could still change, but there was potentially very significant rainfall. “On Thursday and Friday, it may even snow for the first time on Sněžka,” concluded the ČHMÚ.
