Offenbach / Hamburg (dpa / lno) – According to the German Weather Service (DWD), winter 2020/21 was too warm in Hamburg. With an average temperature of around 2.9 degrees, the state was well above the long-term average of 1.2 degrees. This emerges from the preliminary DWD balance sheet for the months of December, January and February. According to the DWD, this comparative value, calculated from the internationally valid reference period 1961 to 1990, enables an assessment of long-term climate change.

The Hanseatic city was thus one of the warmer federal states. On February 22nd, subtropical air in Hamburg-Neuwiedenthal with 21. degrees led to an unusually early spring warmth.

The climate experts counted almost 155 hours of sunshine. The Hanseatic city was thus above the reference value of 134 hours. With almost 155 liters of precipitation per square meter, Hamburg was below its target value of 174 liters.

For the tenth time in a row, the meteorologists recorded a too warm winter nationwide. Accordingly, the average temperature was 1.8 degrees and thus 1.6 degrees above the target value.
