Weather – Offenbach am Main – thunderstorms replace hot days: warning of forest fires – panorama

Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) – Cooling off in North Rhine-Westphalia: After the hot days, the first storms in the country with thunderstorms and heavy rain that last for days are announced in the night on Sunday. Heavy rain showers and hurricane-like gusts can also be expected on Monday and Tuesday, as the German Weather Service announced. Then the temperatures will drop below 30 degrees for the first time in days and the nights will be cooler.

According to a spokeswoman for the German Weather Service in Essen, the thunderstorms are approaching from the southwest over the Eifel at the weekend. Hail with a grain size of up to three centimeters is possible. The southern half of the country is likely to be the focus of the storm on Sunday.

The beginning of the week is changeable and often wet. Heavy thunderstorms with rain fall all over the country. In the middle of the week there is flat precipitation and temperatures, at the weekend it can be around 30 degrees again.

Due to the general drought, the German Weather Service warns of a high risk of forest fires in larger parts of North Rhine-Westphalia.
