Weather – Offenbach am Main – Stormy days in the northeast begin without major damage – Panorama

Schwerin (dpa/mv) – The severe gusts of wind predicted by the German Weather Service (DWD) initially caused little damage on Wednesday. According to the meteorologists, however, it could continue for the next few days. As the police control center in Rostock announced on Wednesday evening, they had occasionally deployed to operations such as fallen trees. According to the information, the damage was limited. In Neubrandenburg, on the other hand, the police have not yet reported a single operation due to weather damage.

The DWD had predicted heavy showers and isolated heavy thunderstorms with sleet and hurricane-like gusts of up to 110 kilometers per hour for Thursday night. The stormy weather is expected to continue into the weekend. The current hurricane “Ylenia” will be followed by the next hurricane called “Zeynep” on Friday. “It brings some heavy rain at first, then later stormy winds again,” said meteorologist Adrian Leyser. The forecast is still quite uncertain, but hurricane-like gusts and hurricane gusts are to be expected in some regions of Germany by Saturday night at the latest, again with consequences for rail, road and air traffic.

Although the police and emergency services had reported little damage by midday, drivers were already being asked to pay more attention. At the end of January, when storm “Nadia” swept across northern Germany, a 16-year-old motorcyclist was seriously injured in the Mecklenburg Lake District when he drove his vehicle into a fallen tree.

Deutsche Bahn AG reacted to the storm warning and announced timetable changes for Thursday morning for safety reasons. On the routes Lübeck – Bad Kleinen – Neubrandenburg – Pasewalk – Szczecin and Neubrandenburg – Altentreptow and Wismar – Bad Doberan, rail traffic will start at 6.30 a.m. at the earliest, earlier connections will be cancelled. The trains would run at reduced speed, so delays could occur. Deutsche Bahn offered long-distance travelers the option of using the tickets purchased for the period from February 17th to 18th flexibly for seven days or canceling them free of charge.

Due to the weather forecast, the Vorpommern-Rügen district moved corona vaccination offers in Stralsund from a tent near the Strelapark shopping center to the vaccination center with a permanent building on Rostocker Chaussee. The city also postponed previously announced tree felling work until further notice.

In Neubrandenburg in the Mecklenburg Lake District, the administration decided to close the cemeteries as a precaution. This initially applies until Friday morning. Burials could take place as planned. “If the weather conditions continue to worsen on Thursday, however, the cemetery administration reserves the right to cancel burials,” it said.

According to its own statements, the energy supplier Wemag (Schwerin), which operates in Mecklenburg and northern Brandenburg, has increased its on-call services in view of the threat of line damage. Additional contractors are also available. “We try to eliminate disruptions as quickly as possible. However, given the likely difficult weather conditions and depending on the damage situation, this may take some time,” said a message distributed on Wednesday.

During the storm at the end of January, Wemag recorded a number of power outages in its supply area. The regions of Crivitz, Güstrow, Plau am See and Dömitz were particularly affected. The fire brigade and police forces were also under great pressure at the time. In the Vorpommern-Rügen district alone, the rescue control center counted around 800 operations. In other circles it was hardly less.
