Hanover / Offenbach (dpa / lni) – The snow storm still has Lower Saxony under control. From the southern Emsland to around the Harz, the storm is likely to let off steam with up to 15 centimeters of fresh snow and gusts of wind up to 80 kilometers per hour, said a meteorologist from the German Weather Service on Sunday. The snowfall is not expected to subside until Monday night. It is possible that the snowfall area will shift a little towards the north, as “the models do not quite agree”. The front runner on Sunday night was Ottenstein in the Holzminden district with 27 centimeters of fresh snow.

The snowfall area came in from the south on Sunday, the meteorologist said. At first there were “light, moderate snowfalls”. The permafrost will remain – even during the day with minus one degree on the North Sea and minus eight degrees in the Harz Mountains. At night, severe frost with minus four to minus 15 degrees, in the Harz also minus 18 degrees, is possible.
