Offenbach / Wiesbaden (dpa / lhe) – snow and slippery roads have slowed down traffic in parts of Hesse properly and caused traffic jams and obstructions. According to a spokesman for the police in Wiesbaden, the first accidents occurred on Tuesday morning, especially in the Taunus. On the federal highway 417 there was “major impairment” by the snowfall, as the spokesman said. The police reported of trucks standing sideways as well as buses and cars that could no longer drive. The surrounding federal highways and Autobahn 3 are also affected by traffic obstructions.

According to the Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund (RMV), individual bus routes in the Rheingau-Taunus district as well as in the Main-Taunus district, Hochtaunus district and Wetterau district were canceled. In addition, passengers would therefore have to expect delays.

According to a spokesman, the trams at Frankfurt Airport had to be cleared alternately. As a result, there were delays in operations, and there were occasional diversions and flight cancellations.

A spokesman for the German Weather Service (DWD) in Offenbach said that moderate snowfall had set in in large parts of the country in the morning hours. The flakes therefore remained in the deeper layers. There is a closed snow cover as far as the Rhine-Main area. According to the DWD, it should continue to snow until noon. Then the precipitation decreases from the west.
