Weather – Offenbach am Main – Several accidents in Rhineland-Palatinate due to snow and ice – Panorama

Kaiserslautern / Ludwigshafen / Mainz (dpa / lrs) – Snowfall turned Rhineland-Palatinate into a winter wonderland in many places on Sunday. While some were happy about the snow, the emergency services had to move out several times, especially in the morning because of weather-related accidents.

A police spokesman in Kaiserslautern said it was a good record for such a weather situation. By Sunday morning, 19 traffic accidents due to snow and ice had been registered in the police headquarters. Two people were slightly injured and property damage totaled 68,000 euros. At noon it was quiet.

The police in Ludwigshafen also reported a relaxed situation at noon. In the morning there had been eight weather-related traffic accidents with a total damage of 30,000 euros. But nobody was injured.

In Neuwied am Rhein there were a total of four traffic accidents on Sunday night, which were at least partially due to the winter weather conditions, as the police announced. Nobody was injured in the accidents. There was property damage in the amount of around 17,000 euros.

In the region around Andernach on the other side of the Rhine, there have been numerous accidents due to heavy snowfall and sudden slipperiness, according to the police. The main cause was mostly too fast a speed. Nobody was injured.

In Speyer, according to the police, a car on Bundesstraße 9 had left the lane due to the weather and was lying on its side in a field on Sunday morning. All three vehicle occupants were able to free themselves unharmed.

In Mainz, the situation was “completely inconspicuous,” as a police spokesman announced. According to the police, it was also quiet on the streets in Trier and Koblenz on Sunday.

In the winter sports areas in Rhineland-Palatinate, there was also no big rush on Sunday. According to estimates by the police, around 1500 winter sports enthusiasts were out around the high eight at noon. But everything was regulated. “You can only praise the people,” said a police spokesman. And the balance of controls on the black man, the Erbeskopf, the Rösterkopf and the Idarkopf was positive, as the police in Trier announced.

According to the German Weather Service (DWD), it may still snow a little locally on Monday night. The DWD continues to warn of slipperiness.
