Mainz (dpa / lrs) – In the summer months of June, July and August it rained a lot in Saarland. According to the German Weather Service (DWD), a rainfall of approximately 310 liters per square meter was determined. This is well above the long-term average of 226 liters per square meter, as the DWD announced on Monday in Offenbach. The amount of precipitation in Saarland was thus even higher in the three months than in the neighboring state of Rhineland-Palatinate, which was hit by a flood disaster caused by heavy rain. In Rhineland-Palatinate, 290 liters per square meter were measured in comparison in the three summer months.

The long-term mean is derived from the internationally valid reference period from 1961 to 1990. According to the meteorologists, the mean temperature in Saarland was 18.0 degrees Celsius, above the long-term mean of 16.7 degrees Celsius. In addition, the sun shone a little less in the Saarland in summer. With around 600 hours of sunshine, the state was below the long-term average of 631 hours.
