Offenbach / Main (dpa / lrs) – Temperature records were set in several places in Rhineland-Palatinate on New Year’s Eve. According to the German Weather Service (DWD), it was warmest in Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler, where a maximum temperature of 16.4 degrees was measured. That was a good two degrees more than the previous record set there in 2017 (14.3 degrees).
Records were also reported from Andernach (15 degrees), Alzey (14.8), Bad Bergzabern (14.4), Montabaur (13.2), Hilgenroth (13.1), Mainz-Lerchenberg (13) and nine other places . It was unusually mild, for example, in Trier-Zewen and Kaiserslautern (both 12.5 degrees), but the New Year’s Eve values there were slightly below those of 2017, as can be seen from the DWD list presented on New Year’s Day.
The weather in Rhineland-Palatinate in the coming days will be uncomfortable and a little cooler. On this Sunday it will be up to 13 degrees, it will rain and strong gusts are expected in the mountains. Monday and Tuesday are also likely to be similar, according to the DWD. In the night of Wednesday, the showers will increasingly turn into snow, the temperatures will drop to three to zero degrees, in the mountains to minus two degrees. Particularly in the mountainous region, you have to expect slippery roads due to slush or freezing wetness.
