Offenbach (dpa / lhe) – Even after the sometimes violent thunderstorms with heavy rain in recent days, the weather in Hesse is showing its restless side in many places. The German Weather Service (DWD) in Offenbach warned of storms for parts of Hesse on Saturday – after it had thundered and rained heavily in many places the day before. On Saturday afternoon, it then poured in the east and in the Rhine-Main area, among other places. The police stations initially reported no major operations.
The German Weather Service (DWD) in Offenbach had predicted “increasing shower and thunderstorm activity” at a maximum of 23 to 26 degrees for Saturday. In some places, storm-like heavy rain, hail and squalls are to be expected again. The DWD issued corresponding warnings, also for several other federal states.
A DWD meteorologist explained on Saturday that storm-like thunderstorms were possible until late at night. The situation can therefore also change regionally, so that in the meantime warnings for certain areas are lifted or new ones are issued.
Already at the end of the week there had been heavy lightning, thunder and rain in Hesse. Because of the storm, emergency services had to be deployed late into the evening in many places on Friday. Heavy rains flooded around Neu-Anspach (Hochtaunuskreis) and streets near Butzbach in Wetteraukreis. According to the police, rubble landed on federal highway 42 between Lorch and Rüdesheim, which led to the route being temporarily closed. According to the police, 15 cellars were full in the central Hessian town of Dautphetal.
In the night of Sunday, the thunderstorms should gradually move east, said the meteorologists in Offenbach. For Sunday, the DWD predicted some clouds and, especially for the eastern half, individual showers; in the afternoon, individual thunderstorms cannot be ruled out. It gets a maximum of 19 to 23 degrees. On the night of Monday, temperatures drop to 16 to 12 degrees with cloudy skies or rain showers.
