Offenbach / Ohlsbach (dpa) – Climate change is also evident in the winter months: for the first time in the history of weather records, temperatures of 20 degrees and more were measured at measuring stations in winter months on six consecutive days, according to the German Weather Service (DWD).

“There have been several three days in a row, most recently in 2019,” said a DWD spokesman on Thursday of the German press agency. “Now that has doubled straight away – this shows the climate warming very clearly.”

There are also numerous regional and federal state heat records. According to preliminary results, a value of 21.8 degrees was measured on Thursday afternoon in Ohlsbach in the Ortenau district – the highest temperature recorded so far this winter.

The fact that it was 20 degrees warm six days in a row can best be compared with the historical heat phase in summer 2019, when 40 degrees and more were measured at several measuring stations on three days in a row, said the DWD spokesman. “For a lot of people the mild temperatures are now very comfortable – for meteorologists they are very worrying now in winter.”
