Weather – Offenbach am Main – crowds of visitors to low mountain ranges: traffic chaos remains – panorama

Offenbach (dpa / lhe) – Hundreds of day trippers used the high elevations of the low mountain range for one of the last opportunities for a walk in the snow for the time being. According to the German Weather Service (DWD), around 14 centimeters of snow were still lying on the 879 meter high Feldberg in the Taunus in the morning, and 19 centimeters were reported from the 950 meter high Wasserkuppe in the Rhön. Despite the large number of visitors, the feared traffic chaos did not materialize, according to the police – also because the access roads to the summits were closed in good time.

Since the parking spaces on the Wasserkuppe were already overcrowded early on, the police temporarily diverted the traffic and recommended driving around the area. When dusk fell, the situation relaxed completely, said a police spokesman in Fulda.

According to the DWD, the white splendor will soon be over: From Sunday onwards, a high pressure area over southern France and Spain will allow subtropical air to flow into Hesse. According to the DWD, even maximum temperatures of a mild nine degrees are expected on Monday. Even at night, the values no longer drop below freezing point.

Because there is always rain and drizzle until Wednesday, which can freeze on the still cold ground, the roads can continue to be slippery despite the rise in temperature.
