Offenbach (dpa / lrs) – April brought amounts of snow to Rhineland-Palatinate, which were not too scarce locally. On the morning of April 9th, there was 21 centimeters on the Weinbiet near Neustadt an der Weinstraße and 20 centimeters in Kaiserslautern, new record amounts of snow for the month, as the German Weather Service (DWD) announced on Friday in its preliminary monthly balance. April also stood out when it came to storms: On the 7th, low “Nasim” swept across the state with gusts of locally more than 90 kilometers per hour.
In terms of temperature and sunshine, the month was slightly above target. According to the DWD, the mean temperature was 8.6 degrees, which was 0.8 degrees more than the value from the international reference period from 1961 to 1990. With a good 190 hours, the sun shone 39 hours longer. In terms of precipitation, April fell slightly short of the target (57 liters) at 55 liters per square meter.
