Offenbach (dpa/lhe) – After a hot weekend with temperatures of up to 38 degrees, the Hessians are starting the new week with thunderstorms, showers and a little cooling off. First of all, people in the south of the state have to adjust to peak temperatures of up to 38 degrees on Saturday, as the German Weather Service (DWD) announced. In the night to Sunday it doesn’t really cool down: In the metropolitan areas, the lows will still be a warm 23 degrees, in other parts of the country it will drop to 17 to 21 degrees.

On Sunday it will be 30 degrees in the north of Hesse and up to 37 degrees in the south. In the course of the day there can be strong thunderstorms with heavy rain, squalls and hail, which can last into Monday night. According to the DWD, nighttime temperatures drop to 10 degrees in the north and 18 degrees in the south.

The weather starts the new week with clouds and some showers and thunderstorms. During the course of the day the clouds loosen up and the sun comes out. The maximum temperatures are 20 degrees in the north and 27 degrees in the south. In the night of Tuesday it cools down to 10 to 15 degrees, in the mountains to 8 degrees.
