A number of cold records were broken this Sunday in France.
In Porquerolles (Var), 9.7 ° C were recorded, bringing down the record of 10 ° C in 1972, 1977 and 1963 (start of measurements in 1949). In Ile du Levant (Var), 9.9 ° C were recorded against 10.6 ° C in 1974. In Barcelonnette (Alpes-de-Haute-Provence), it was even -5.4 ° C against -4.3 ° C in 2017 (beginning of measurements in 1927).

On this table, a greater number of records seem to have fallen on Sunday. On Twitter, Étienne Kapikian, forecaster at Meteo France qualifies, however: “most of the stations on this list have only 20 to 35 years of measurements (…). Many have not experienced the (cold) episodes of 1977, 1974, 1972, 1931, etc. “.

Be careful, this “many records” must be put into perspective. Most of the stations on this list only have 20 to 35 years of measurements, which is ultimately not much. Many did not know the episodes of 1977, 1974, 1972, 1931 etc … @meteoSud_Est @SebastienBaille @DamienGriffaut

The number of records on stations over 40 can be counted roughly on the fingers of one hand. But they are no less surprising.
Less than two weeks ago, on September 15 to be exact, Meteo France announced that heat records had been broken in France for the month of September. In the Grand Est, the bar of 34 ° C had thus been crossed.

34.4 ° C in Nancy, 34.3 ° C in Metz twelve days ago. This Sunday, it was 10 ° C and 12 ° C respectively.
During the night from Thursday to Friday, snow even fell in the Alps and the Pyrenees, above 1,500 meters above sea level. Due to cooling temperatures, snowfall continued this weekend.
