Weather, Meteorological Institute | This is how the weather will be in the first days of 2022

The precipitation field will cover the whole of southern Norway and can provide rain, sleet, but also snow. In the north, people are asked to secure loose objects.

Both in the south and north, there will be a good mix of precipitation and residence weather the first week in 2022, according to meteorologists.

The year starts with several warnings; snowstorm, freezing rain, small storm and avalanche danger.

On Saturday afternoon, the meteorologists updated their danger warning for gusts in Troms from yellow to orange danger level.

– There is a great danger that many mountain passes and bridges will be closed and ferries will be canceled, says traffic operator Synnøve Lukkassen at Vegtrafikksentralen north to NTB.

From Saturday night, the wind is expected to increase in Nordland and Troms. A southeasterly strong gale or small storm with gusts of 22 meters per second is expected. The wind gusts can in some places reach up to 35 meters per second, warns Meteorological Institute.

The strong wind is expected to last until Sunday, where the wind will lie at midnight.

– We encourage people to go home from the Christmas holidays already on Saturday. And at the same time you should not go out and drive if you do not have to, says Lukkassen.

Avalanche danger

An orange warning of significant avalanche danger has also been issued over large parts of the country. Fresh snow, flake avalanches and wet snow lead to the risk of avalanches, and people are asked to avoid avalanche terrain.

– If you have to drive, it is a good idea to bring warm clothes, food and drink and possibly what you need of other equipment if you get stuck, says Lukkassen, who emphasizes that it can take a long time before you get home if one were to stand firm.

She says that it may also be a good idea to bring a shovel and reflective vest.

– If, for example, you come down something on the E6, it is important that you do not get out of the car, but that you turn on the emergency light, call for help and wait in the car. People can be cut down by bulldozers who do not see them, she says.

Bit of everything

Rain that freezes on the ground is expected to cause difficult driving conditions in Agder and in Eastern Norway south of Oslo from Saturday afternoon.

– North of Oslo it is so cold that it will mostly snow.

If you are wondering if it will rain or snow where you live, the meteorologist has this advice:

– Keep an eye on the precipitation map on Yr and drive according to the conditions, the temperature can vary locally, writes the meteorologists in a Twitter message at 11 p.m...
