The strong wind warning is valid from 20:00 today until 04:00 Wednesday for Jesenice, Bruntál, Krnov and Opava. In the area north of Jeseníky, meteorologists expect winds with gusts of up to 70 kilometers per hour. Directly in the Jeseníky, gusts can have a speed of 40 kilometers per hour higher.
The wind can break branches and cause minor damage to buildings, warns the ČHMÚ. People should therefore take extra care when moving outdoors and when driving. Meteorologists also recommend securing windows and doors and removing or securing loose objects.
Hurricane Kirk in the game
It will get warmer in the Czech Republic in the coming days. The mercury on the thermometers will hover around 20 degrees Celsius. Hurricane Kirk, which is hurtling towards Europe, is to blame. In addition to warming, it will bring temporarily stronger winds to the Czech Republic, but otherwise it will not significantly affect the weather here, says the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute (ČHMÚ). People in Western Europe, on the other hand, will feel the hurricane.
“Over the Atlantic, Kirk reached Category 4 on the Saffir-Simpson scale (winds over 210 km/h) on Friday, weakening over the weekend. As it moves towards Europe, it will further weaken and transform into an extratropical cyclone, i.e. a deep low pressure trough.” explains the CHMÚ.
According to him, Kirk will reach the coast of Western Europe on Wednesday, bringing wind speeds of over 100 km/h. “During Wednesday and Thursday it will move northeast over Scandinavia. It will most significantly affect the north of Spain and France, it will also partially affect the south of the British Isles, the Benelux countries and Germany,” describe the meteorologists with the fact that high waves may appear on the coast of the given states.
The weather in the Czech Republic will be affected by a hurricane – or rather an ex-hurricane at that time – by the fact that warmer air will begin to flow towards us, which will see temperatures climb into the 20s on Wednesday and Thursday. At the end of the week, however, cold air will begin to flow into Central Europe from the northwest, so it will cool down again.
“Temporarily stronger winds await us, on Wednesday wind gusts over 50 km/h may appear in the east of the territory, on Thursday, the south-west wind will temporarily increase elsewhere and the speed will vary between 50 and 70 km/h in gusts. Wednesday will be rainy and in the following days precipitation will appear in places, but daily totals will not exceed 15 mm. ČHMÚ announces what else Kirk will bring to the Czech Republic.
