Weather: High “Frank” brings sun and mild temperatures

The reason for the predominantly sunny and calm winter sports weather is the Hoch Frank. In the coming days, this will shift from Germany via Poland to Romania and supply the Alpine region with dry and slowly milder air.

Sun fights against high fog

The lowlands in the east and southeast, where the sun has to fight against high fog, are somewhat disadvantaged this weekend. It is only at the beginning of the new week that the influence of strong lows over the Atlantic increases significantly.

Temperatures climb to 13 degrees

Temperatures will rise steadily in the coming days: If the maximum values on Friday and Saturday are still between 0 and +10 degrees, you can already expect up to +13 degrees on Sunday with plenty of sun and a slightly blowing south wind from Vorarlberg to the Mostviertel , “There are also pleasant temperatures for skiing on the slopes; at 2,000 meters, the air usually warms up to 0 to +5 degrees at the weekend,” says Manfred Spatzierer, chief meteorologist at the Austrian Severe Weather Center. “In contrast to the past few days, the wind does not spoil the lift operators, it hardly plays a role until Sunday evening.”

Two centimeters of snow in Mozartstadt

The cold front on Tuesday brought a good amount of fresh snow to the Northern Alps, so the snow situation there is currently quite good. Lech am Arlberg reports almost one meter of snow, 63 centimeters in Seefeld in Tyrol and 44 centimeters in St. Johann im Pongau. Of the state capitals, only Innsbruck and Salzburg can boast two centimeters of snow.

Stormy storm on Monday

It is important to enjoy the beautiful weather, because the weather models already show a great deal of agreement regarding a new storm next Monday. At the turn of the week, the Alpine region comes under the influence of a strong low that moves from Scotland across the North Sea to Scandinavia.

First, Sunday evening and night from Vorarlberg to the Mostviertel stormy Südföhn arises, which will be replaced on Monday by the west wind. Heavy gusts of wind, hurricane-like gusts and locally even gale gusts of up to 120 km / h are heralded in advance and as the cold front of the low moves through the entire north of the Alps.
