Strong gusts of wind have caused a lot of property damage in the canton of Bern since Sunday morning. Apparently nobody was injured.

More than 70 reports were received by early Monday evening, said Joël Regli from the Bern canton police at the request of the Keystone-SDA news agency. All regions were affected, although the Bernese Oberland was only marginally affected.

Many cases involved fallen trees. Railroad barriers also fell down, objects were thrown onto the roadway and, in several cases, parked cars were damaged by flying objects.

On Lake Biel and in the Nidau-Büren Canal, boats got into trouble at their moorings due to the wind. The cantonal police in Bern had no knowledge of injured people.

An icy bise has had parts of the country, including the canton of Bern, under control since Sunday. On the Chasseral in the Bernese Jura, the wind blew at times at 105 kilometers per hour on Sunday, according to the Meteonews weather service. On the Bantiger near Bern there were peak gusts of 101 km/h.

On Monday the bise gradually weakened, but gusts of up to 86 km/h were still registered. From Tuesday the bise will continue to ease.
