According to weather forecaster Tomomi Yoshida from the Japan Weather Association, the next two weeks will bring significant weather changes to different regions of Japan. The rainy season is approaching its peak in Kyushu-Tohoku, with a fear of increased rainfall. However, there is good news for Okinawa and Amami as the end of the rainy season is approaching.
Starting from the 24th (Saturday), the strength of the Pacific High will gradually increase. This will lead to the end of the rainy season in Okinawa and Amami. The seasonal rain front will move north, and there is a risk of heavy rainfall mainly on the Sea of Japan side of western Japan from the 26th (Monday) to the 27th (Tuesday). The area around Honshu will be in the peak of the rainy season during this time.
In Okinawa and Amami, the end of the rainy season is approaching. The seasonal rain front is stationary near the Nansei Islands, resulting in intermittent heavy rains. Amami has experienced record-breaking heavy rain, with rainfall exceeding 500 mm since it began to fall on the 16th. Heavy rain with thunder is expected until the 23rd (Friday), and there are concerns about landslides due to the loosening of the ground caused by the heavy rains. It is important to remain vigilant and take precautions against landslide disasters.
From the 24th (Saturday) onwards, the Pacific High will gradually increase in strength, indicating the possible end of the rainy season in Okinawa and Amami. However, the region will face tough heat next week with strong sunshine, so it is crucial to be careful and take measures to prevent heat stroke.
As the rainy season in Okinawa and Amami comes to an end, the rainy season front will move northward, reaching Kyushu, Shikoku, and Honshu. From the 26th (Monday) to the 27th (Tuesday), there is a risk of heavy rainfall mainly in the Kyushu and Chugoku regions as warm and moist air flows toward the front. From the 28th (Wednesday) to the 29th (Thursday), the rainy season front will extend to the vicinity of Honshu, resulting in rain mainly on the Sea of Japan side.
After the 30th (Friday), the rainy season front is expected to stagnate near Honshu, leading to the spread of the rainy season over a wide area. Intermittent rain is expected from Kyushu to Tokai and Hokuriku. Kanto and Tohoku regions are also likely to experience more rainy days after July 3rd (Monday). Additionally, maximum temperatures will be above normal, with the temperature rising to about 30 degrees Celsius in the Kanto region and the west. The combination of high temperature and humidity increases the risk of heat stroke, so it is important to take precautions.
In Okinawa, the summer sky will spread, and the severe heat will continue.
During the peak of the rainy season, heavy rains cause damage every year. To minimize the damage caused by heavy rain disasters, it is important to prepare in advance. Three key preparations include confirming evacuation sites and routes, preparing emergency supplies, and cleaning gutters to improve drainage.
As the weather patterns change in different regions of Japan, it is crucial to stay updated with the latest weather forecasts and take necessary precautions to ensure safety and minimize the impact of heavy rains and heat waves.
