Mattia Gussoni, meteorologist for the website www.ilmeteo.it, confirms a clear and sudden improvement compared to the cold that has intensely affected the country: between last Monday and Wednesday, maximum temperatures were recorded 10-12°C below the average for the period.
During this weekend we will return to savor the warmer side of Spring, but not everywhere. Scirocco currents will bring rain, frequent showers and snowfalls above 1500-1800 meters to the North-West. In this narrow strip of our country we will unfortunately have a weekend partly ruined by the weather.
The return of the North African anticyclone will favor full sun in the South, little cloudy skies in the Center with highs of up to 24-25°C (peaks of 27°C in Sardinia) but will not be able to prevent a certain instability in the North and in Tuscany with some scattered rain.
The last Sunday of April it will close an anomalous circle: the first 15 days were hot, at times very hot for the period, then the Scandinavian collapse occurred with the peak of the cold around April 22-24; now we reach the end of this ‘up and down’ month with peaks of 30 expected until the 30th (of the month).
The Sunday in fact, it will see a further increase in temperatures with maximum values of 28°C in Caserta, 26°C in Naples and 25°C in Florence.
In this serene and happy context, however, we will have to remember the bad weather forecast in the extreme North-West where we will still find intense showers, heavy snowfalls above 1900-2000 meters and also suspended desert sand: therefore the possibility of a new episode of Neve Rossa in the mountains, between Piedmont and Valle d’Aosta. Rising temperatures will also cause the snow that fell at low altitudes in recent days to melt and will contribute to rivers flooding.
The new week will instead see the return of the sun everywhere with heat up to 31°C in Sicily!
It seems like excellent news, and in part it is: but in a mischievous and spiteful way, a Cyclone will arrive from the afternoon of April 30th on Sardinia and will ruin at least the first part of May Day in our country, from West to East.
A late April Fool’s Day, for the last day of a month that will be remembered for the very high ‘weather swing’ that took thermometers from 33°C to 7°C in a few days, and then back up again beyond the 30-31°. Spring Oddities!
