A very high swing that leads from the peaks of anomalous heat in the middle of the month (33°C on 14 April also in the North) to the recent snowfalls in the hills, and then back up again, towards the North African spring climate with 30 degrees in the Centre-South , 10 degrees above the averages for the April period.
The climate that fluctuates
A climate that therefore oscillates between North African heat and Scandinavian cold, due to the very accentuated North-South meridian exchanges in this period: it is normal to find these synoptic oscillations as the flow of winds is not always directed from West to East or from East to West.
Snow in the Alps: but in the next few hours everything changes again
This year, thanks to the intense cooling of the Scandinavian area during the winter (down to -44°C), the outbreaks from the North were decidedly more significant with the snow whitening the Alps again but above all the Apennines up to Calabria around 1000 meters. In the next few hours everything will change again, the Scandinavian polar air will return to its home, while an Atlantic cyclone will advance from West to East reaching Normandy during the weekend: this ‘Norman’ cyclone will favor an intensification of the mild southern currents towards our Village. In summary, from today the Italian weather will be increasingly governed by Ostro or Scirocco winds, from the South or South-East.
Sun, showers of rain and maximum temperatures rising
The southern winds will initially bring humid and unstable air with some scattered showers, then between Saturday and Sunday (strengthening from the South-East) they will push sometimes intense rainfall towards the North-West: in the rest of the country the weather for the long weekend of 25 April will improve. In detail, ‘transition’ showers between the Scandinavian air and the arriving North African air are expected in the next few hours: showers will be more likely in Liguria, Upper Tuscany and from the afternoon in most of the central-southern scrub regions of leopard. It will be a classic spring day with sun, showers of rain but above all maximum temperatures significantly increasing everywhere. On Friday, the humid air from the South will still cause some showers, especially in the afternoon and in the Centre-North.
Thermal zero above 2,000 meters
The phenomena will be mostly weak, more widespread in the Center and intensifying towards the North-West. The North-West (Liguria, Piedmont, Valle d’Aosta and western Lombardy) will in fact see a phase of bad weather that will continue into the weekend with rainfall frequent and snowy above 1500-1700 metres: the freezing point is in fact expected to rise sharply above 2,000 meters in the North, up to 3000 meters in the Centre-South. A shaky April 25th long weekend in the North-West, with some showers in the Center and North-East, but very mild and above all sunny in the rest of the country: all in all a marked improvement compared to the last Scandinavian days of gray skies, snow, hail , rainfall and maximums below 10 degrees in the North and below 15-17 degrees in the Centre-South.
