Weather forecast for the long weekend of April 25th: improves in the Centre-South, rain in the North

An April 24th similar to a December 24th: it looks like Christmas Eve with snow-capped mountains from North to South, locally also the hills, with typical winter temperatures and gray skies over much of the country.

The cold coming down from Sweden

A cold Swedish core over much of Italy, offers winter-style bad weather and snow at low altitude for the period in the Dolomites and the Apennines. Only in the North-West is the air clear with clear spells, crisp lows, but maximum temperatures rising above 15°C.

In the south temperatures dropped by at least 10 degrees

The next few hours will see the cold Swedish core slide towards the South where temperatures will drop by at least 10 degrees: precipitation will widespreadly wet the central regions, the North-East (in particular Emilia Romagna) and the Tyrrhenian South. Elsewhere we will also find dry moments, albeit in a rather variable context.

Liberation Day: free even from the cold

The Liberation Day will also free us from the cold throughout Italy: the minimum temperatures will still be chilly, locally close to 3-5°C in the plains, but the maximum temperatures will also rise by 8-9°C compared to the ‘pseudo’ eve of Christmas. From the point of view of umbrellas, we will have to open them especially in the afternoon in the central Tyrrhenian regions, locally also in Campania and in the Alpine and pre-Alpine areas.

Variable weather from Friday

From Friday, Italy will enter a shaky bridge (April 25th): in the North-West a disturbed phase will begin due to a ‘Norman’ disturbance, centered on Normandy, while Spring will return in the South. At the Center Friday will be similar to Thursday. However, temperatures will begin to rise towards normal values ​​for the period across the country. The weekend will therefore see the Bridge of 25 wobble in the North-West with frequent rain and the return of snow in the Western Alps above 1500-1600 metres. Bad weather will return. Elsewhere the weather conditions will be better with confident hopes of a blue sky and a mild thermometer across much of the Centre-South.

Climatic anomalies

In summary, the cold will end on April 25th, with the liberation from the polar air mass which brought about record values ​​for the period: climatic anomalies of 12°C less in the third ten days of April had not been recorded for at least 30 years on some areas of Piedmont and Lombardy. From April 25th everything will change, only the threat of intense rain will remain in the north-western regions during the weekend, but in a decidedly milder context dragged by the Scirocco winds.

For May Day widespread worsening

Finally, for May Day, we are talking about another shaky situation: until April 30th the sun could return everywhere, for Labor Day a widespread worsening is currently expected but, given the temporal distance, we don’t want to ruin the holiday who works all year round and we wait a few days before issuing a reliable and possibly perturbed forecast.

Trend: pressure gradually increasing, generally sunny except for rain over the weekend in the North-West, at times intense.
