We’ve been waiting for it for almost a month, especially in the northern half of the country … A little more patience: summer will finally take its marks from next weekend across the country, weather forecasters promise.
This improvement will be done in two stages: first from the west, from this Thursday, while, according to Météo-France, the east facade of the country will keep “a more unstable weather always in connection with the cold drop of altitude which will continue to generate locally stormy showers on Thursday between the Ardennes, Alsace, Burgundy, Jura and the Alps”. Significant amounts of rain are to be feared in these areas which have already been particularly watered since the beginning of July. Ten departments in eastern France are also on orange alert for rain-flood or floods this Thursday morning.
Temperatures above normal from Sunday
“From Friday to Sunday, instability will be reduced, and the risk of showers and thunderstorms will be confined to the eastern fringe of the country, including Corsica,” predicts Météo France. “Everywhere else, the sun and beautiful clearings will prevail with much more summery temperatures that will even exceed seasonal values from Sunday.”
Thanks to the surge of the Azores high pressure, the summer weather will become general this weekend, with temperatures that will gain about two degrees per day, to approach 30 degrees on average on Monday in the North and exceed them in the South. . No heat dome on the horizon, however, but a sun that should last, even if thunderstorms are never to be ruled out.
A very rainy start to summer
This will do good for morale and tourism, after a very gloomy start to summer, although contrasted depending on the region. Over the period June 1 – July 11, an average of 132.6 mm of precipitation fell on the territory, making it the 5th rainiest start of summer since 1959, notes Météo France.
–
Some cities in western France have already broken their rain record for the season, notably Tours (186.3 mm) and Rennes (182.5 mm).
For the east of the country, it will be necessary to make the accounts at the end of this very wet week, whereas it has already fallen 86mm of rain in 24 hours in Martigny-Courpierre (Aisne), 81mm in Banogne-Recouvrance (Ardennes ) or 63mm in Reims (Marne).
–
Conversely, the count is quickly made in Nice, where only 3.6mm of rain has fallen since the beginning of June, and Bastia with 3mm. As for Ajaccio, with 1.8 mm of precipitation, it is downright the 5th driest start of summer since 1950!
On the temperature side, it is also contrasted. Contrary to recent impressions, the meteorological summer, which began on June 1, remains milder than average (reference 1981-2010).
–
Since June 1, the average temperature in France has been 20.2 degrees, which makes it, according to Météo France, the 9th hottest start of summer since 1947.
