This Wednesday the heat wave is in full swing as it is the hottest day of the week nationally. The 35°C threshold will be reached up to the northern half in cities such as Paris, Strasbourg, Dijon or Angers. In the south, peaks at 40°C are not excluded in the plains of the south-west. The heat remains moderate in the Channel.

To retain :

– high temperatures at daybreak near the Mediterranean with 22 to 26°C

– very hot afternoons (33 to 38°C in general) except in regions close to the English Channel

– localized storms but sometimes accompanied by heavy rains at the end of the day in the Pyrenees and the south of the Alps.

General context :

France is located this Wednesday in the heart of a very hot air mass coming up from the Maghreb countries. The air remains very dry with very sunny weather. Only the extreme northwest (western Brittany and Cotentin) is affected by wetter air coming from the Channel and the Atlantic with numerous banks of fog and low clouds, limiting the rise in temperatures.

Details by regions :

From Brittany and Normandy to Hauts-de-France, banks of mist or low morning clouds are present near the English Channel; they are quite stubborn in Finistère where the sunny spells are difficult to impose in the afternoon. Everywhere else, the sun is needed and temperatures are rising rapidly. Count in the morning on temperatures between 15 and 18°C ​​and in the afternoon values ​​of 22 to 27°C on the Channel coast and 28 to 34°C inland.

From Pays de la Loire and Centre-Val de Loire to Ile-de-France, it is the hottest day of the week with a weather that remains very sunny. Temperatures are between 15 and 19°C in the morning and between 34 and 37°C in the afternoon.

From the Great East to Burgundy-Franche-Comté and Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, it’s a very hot sunny day ahead. In the afternoon, clouds are budding above the reliefs but the risk of showers remains limited. Temperatures are between 14 and 21°C in the morning and between 33 and 39°C in the afternoon from the Ardennes to the Rhone Valley.

From New Aquitaine to Occitania, sun and high temperatures are on the program with weather that becomes heavy and stormy at the end of the day in the Pyrenees. On the coast of the Gulf of Lion, the sea wind attenuates the high heat a little. Temperatures in the morning are between 16 and 24°C and in the afternoon between 31°C on the Basque coast and nearly 40°C in Albi or Montauban.

In PACA and Corsica, the weather conditions remain summery with sun and strong heat. The clouds increase in the mountains in the afternoon with a risk of stormy showers at the end of the day. Temperatures vary between 18 and 25°C in the morning and between 31 and 39°C in the afternoon.
